Minecraft is a simple Java game that makes you question how important graphics are. Yes, the game is 3D (both ways, it offers an option to play it with 3D glasses, and is 3D), but is the definition of simple. Remember when you were a kid, and played with Legos? You could build everything you ever imagined, with no limits; well besides your patience or how many blocks you had. Well, Minecraft is like that, but with zombies, and unlimited building blocks. The current version is 25% off because it’s in Beta, but you can try the game out for free with friends HERE.
It’s hard describing Minecraft in words. Even Notch, has had issues describing what it is really all about. But I think on his recently updated website, he says it best:
“Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. It also has music by C418!”
When you first start to play, you question how this game has sold over a Million copies (No legit, it has). The concept is simplistic, the graphics are simple (but they get the job done), and a lot of features are still in development. No surprise considering the game was completely constructed by one guy, up until recently. But then as you continue to play you find that it is nearly impossible to log off. And before you know it, it’s three in the morning, and you still haven’t eaten dinner (It’s happened).
The addicting aspect of the game is the ability to do anything you like. The possibilities are endless, from building automated airlocks, to zombie hunting, and even playing the song Still Alive from Portal (below). Then, accompany that with multi-player with tons of friends, and you have hours of sleepless nights...Or my college Life.
